If you don’t want to set off unaccompanied, and don’t want to join one of our guided excursions, we recommend our multimedia guide:

by means of satellite navigation, this small handheld device, weighing just 150 grams, will provide pictures, audio texts, videos and texts covering a wealth of information such as:

- an elevation chart with your location
- wildlife and plant information
- geological and historical facts
- useful information (Postbus, hotel, etc.)
- themed discovery trails (geology, rock glaciers, forest fires, butterflies)
- Champlönch children’s trail
- children’s research trail, Ardez
- identification key to indigenous plants, birds, butterflies and grasshoppers
- quiz covering several trails in the National Park
- 360° panoramas from the most stunning viewpoints
- Park wardens share some of their encounters

New, something on offer outside the SNP
Beside the domain of technology, there are also developments elsewhere. Alongside the much appreciated variety of themes on offer within the National Park, as of summer 2010 visitors will be able to use the WebparkSNP mullitimedia guide to follow two routes outside the Park. One of these is a a research trail for children that was laid down in collaboration with the WWF in 2009 in an area known as the 'emerald zone' (Smaragdgebiet) behind the castle ruins of Ardez. Budding young scientists will enjoy finding out more about this fascinating protection zone and making astonishing discoveries in these ancient surroundings. Can they find the answer to certain questions? For example, why are dragonflies often not left to live in peace, or how are spiders - such as the wolf spider here in Ardez - useful to humans? Once youngsters have found all the correct answers, these will provide the key to the solution that will entitle them to a 'research certificate' that they can collect from the Hotel Muntanella.

Technology
The technology is provided by Camineo.

The multimedia visitor information system is based on Smartphone technology with GPS navigation. It can be operated in German, French or English.

How it works: the GPS tracks the hiker as he goes along the way. Information requested by the hiker is provided by the local databank, and may refer to a specific keyword or the current location. Using bookmarks, hikers can enter their own observations, which are transferred by mobile network to the central WebPark server and are subsequently available to other visitors.
